Year 5 + 6 – Ancient Egyptian Cartouches

As part of our Pharaohs Creativity topic, we have designed and sculpted our own Egyptian Cartouches out of modelling clay.  We added detail carefully using different equipment and painted our models once they had dried.

To design our cartouches, we first researched the importance of cartouches in the mummification process and found that they were used to help the soul of the dead person recognise its human form in the afterlife.

Furthermore, we looked at (and carefully practised) writing hieroglyphs, so that we could add our own names to our cartouche designs.
