Dear Parents and Carers,

A very warm welcome to all the new children that have joined us in school. We hope they have an enjoyable and enriched experience whilst at our primary school. Also, a warm welcome back to all returning children. The children have all returned to school looking super smart, eager to learn and see all their friends and have settled back into school life quickly.

Derbyshire Healthy Schools Community Award:

Great news – the school achieved the DerbyshireHealthy Schools Community Award at the end of July. The school worked very closely with the school health team to achieve this. We focused on the following two areas: –

  • To support Children’s emotional health and well being
  • Equipping children with the skills and knowledge to develop healthy attitudes towards Medicine Management, drugs and alcohol

Junior Library:

We have had the bookshelves delivered and are waiting for some seating to arrive which is due at the end of September. Next week, the newly chosen librarians will start sorting the books into genres. The next step in improving the space, would be to have a mural above the book area as the pale blue paintwork needs freshening up anyway. We are going to run a competition for the junior children to design a mural for the wall. If you have any free time and would like to be creative and paint a mural on the wall, please let us know (The space is quite high and you would need to climb a ladder).

Fencing:

The work on the fencing did not start as I expected in the holidays and is expected to start now on the 16th September. The work is anticipated to take 3 weeks. During this time, we will endeavour to minimise any disruption to yourselves or the children. We will notify you by text if there is any changes which will affect you.

There is a brightly coloured box in each classroom which is brought down to the school office daily. Any information or money such as dinner money may be placed in here for the school office. Just ensure it has your child’s name on it.

Absence from School:

If your child is absent from school for whatever reason please inform the office by 10am.  If your child has sickness or diarrhoea, please keep them away from school for 48hours after their last bout. This will help alleviate germs being spread to other members of their class. (Derbyshire County Guidelines).

School Drive:

As there were several near misses where children could have easily been injured by cars last year please park at the bottom of the drive and walk up to drop off or collect children. Please can this request be passed on to any other adults who may be bringing/picking up your child from school. Hopefully this will avoid any further incidents

Photographs:

These are due to take place on Monday 21st October 2019. All children will be photographed individually and with siblings. If you have any pre-school aged children, you are more than welcome to bring them at 8.30am to have them photographed.

Dates for the year:

We do try to give as much notice as is possible for the many events in the school year. You will find attached the list of dates for your diary. The website also has a school calendar which is regularly updated. Occasionally we do need to make amendments to these dates but we will endeavour to give you as much notices as possible.

Cool Milk:

We use the ‘Cool Milk’ scheme as children are entitled to free milk (up to their 5th birthday). We offer the opportunity for all parents to purchase milk for their children. The milk will be stored in a fridge and be given to children who join the scheme during the morning. To register your child go to www.coolmilk.com

Pupil Post:

The youngest child in the family will be the letter carrier for your family. Please check your child’s bag regularly. A copy of the most recent Newsletter will be posted in the notice board. Each class has a brightly coloured box which goes to the office each morning Any reply slips, dinner money (£2.10) payments, or letters may be returned through the class boxes. We also post newsletters on the school website.

Holiday Requests:

A reminder regarding the statutory attendance legislation implemented by the government in September 2013 – head teachers are unable to authorise holidays during the term time apart from in exceptional circumstances which may include:

•          Critical family illness (of a parent or child)

•          Family wedding in which the child has a ‘role’ e.g. bridesmaid/page boy

All schools in our area will now be submitting unauthorised absence information to the Local Authority which may result in you receiving a fixed penalty notice. Please note that term dates up to summer 2020 are available on the Derbyshire County Council website.

Clubs:

A club letter will be sent out shortly. If children sign up to a club, they need to attend for the entire period unless the relevant teacher is notified. Additionally, if for some reason your child can’t attend for a session please let the teacher know as we will be keeping a register to comply with safeguarding procedures. UK Sports (who we use to deliver our high quality PE lessons) run clubs two nights a week. Letters for these clubs will come out shortly. There is a charge for these clubs which is payable directly to UK Sports.
