September Newsletter 2018

Dear Parents and Carers,

A very warm welcome to all the new children that have joined us in school this week. We are delighted to welcome them to our school and hope they will be very happy. Also, a warm welcome back to all returning children.

The staff and I would also like to thank you for the many lovely gifts and cards we received at the end of last term. This was very kind of you and we are all very grateful. Thank you.

The children have all returned to school looking super smart and have settled back into school life quickly.

Painting of School:

A huge thank you to everyone who helped with the painting of the window frames and wooden panels over the holiday. It has made a considerable difference. Also, a big thank you for sourcing the materials, child care and making refreshments!

School Office Hours:

Monday 8.30am – 4pm

Tuesday 9.15am – 3.45pm

Wednesday 8.30am – 3pm

Thursday 9.15am – 3pm

Friday 8.30am – 2.45pm

There is a brightly coloured box in each classroom which is brought down to the school office daily. Any information or money such as dinner money may be placed in here for the school office. Just ensure it has your child’s name on it.

Absence from School:

If you child is absent from school for whatever reason please inform the office by 10am.

School Drive:

As there were several near misses where children could have easily been injured by cars last year please park at the bottom of the drive and walk up to drop off or collect children. Please can this request be passed on to any other adults who may be bringing/picking up your child from school. Hopefully this will avoid any further incidents.


These are due to take place on Monday 22nd October 2018. All children will be photographed individually and with siblings. If you have any pre-school aged children you are more than welcome to bring them at 8.30am to have them photographed.

Dates for the year:

We do try to give as much notice as is possible for the many events in the school year. You will find attached the list of dates for your diary. The website also has a school calendar which is regularly updated.


You are warmly invited to join us at a community Harvest Thanksgiving Service this month:

Sunday 23rd 9.30am at St. John’s Tideswell (joint with Fountain Square Church)

Monday 24th 9.15am at St. John’s Tideswell (with Bishop Pursglove School)

Thursday 27th 9.15am at Christ Church Litton (with Litton School)

Sunday 30th 10.30am at Christ Church Litton (joint with Litton Methodist Church and other local churches) – to be followed by a bring and share lunch and auction of produce.

Donations of goods and money are welcome, in support of Derbyshire Refugee Solidarity and a Derbyshire farmers’ welfare fund.

Derbyshire Refugee Solidarity are collecting items for food packs for distribution in Syria and Calais; any of the following would be useful:

bars of chocolate

small bottles of water

small cartons of fruit juice

small bags of nuts or dried fruit

tins of sardines or mackerel (with ring-pull)

cereal bars

Any other non-perishable food items donated will go to Buxton Food Bank.

Fresh produce is always welcome, for sale or auction – proceeds to the same causes.

Cool Milk:

We use the ‘Cool Milk’ scheme as children are entitled to free milk (up to their 5th birthday). We offer the opportunity for all parents to purchase milk for their children. The milk will be stored in a fridge and be given to children who join the scheme during the morning. To register your child go to

Pupil Post:

The youngest child in the family will be the letter carrier for your family. Please check your child’s bag regularly. A copy of the most recent Newsletter will be posted in the notice board. Any reply slips, payments, or letters may be returned through the class boxes. We also post newsletters on the school website. Each class has a brightly coloured box which goes to the office each morning which can be used to drop dinner money.

Holiday Requests:

A reminder regarding the statutory attendance legislation implemented by the government in September 2013 – head teachers are unable to authorise holidays during the term time apart from in exceptional circumstances which may include:

  • Critical family illness (of a parent or child)
  • Family wedding in which the child has a ‘role’ e.g. bridesmaid/page boy

All schools in our area will now be submitting unauthorised absence information to the Local Authority which may result in you receiving a fixed penalty notice. Please note that term dates up to summer 2020 are available on the Derbyshire County Council website.


A club letter will be sent out shortly. If children sign up to a club they need to attend for the entire period unless the relevant teacher is notified. Additionally, if for some reason you child can’t attend for a session please let the teacher know as we will be keeping a register to comply with safeguarding procedures.
