October Newsletter

Dear Parents and Carers,

Half Term Update

Sports News:

Y5/6 took part in the cluster football festival which was held at Tideswell in September. They had a fabulous time and the girls team came back with a trophy after a thrilling match against Longstone.

44 children (Y1 – Y6 children) took part in the cluster cross county event. The children really enjoyed themselves and all the children involved performed brilliantly. The upper junior girls team came first as did the girls infant team.Y2 took part in the cluster football festival which was held at Tideswell this month. They had a great time and loved the opportunity to build on teamwork skills.

Sports events to come this term: Y5/6 will be taking part in the cluster Tag Rugby at Longstone on October 25th from 1 – 3pm. Y3/4 will be taking part in the cluster dodgeball tournament at Bakewell Juniors on November 15th from 1 – 3pm. Parents are very welcome to go and watch at these events.

Many thanks to Friends of School who provided refreshments. They raised a considerable amount of money and the refreshments were greatly appreciated by visiting parents. Many thanks to all who donated cakes.

Darcy in Y6 auditioned and was selected to take part in the English Youth Ballet production of Sleeping Beauty. This was a fantastic achievement and we wish her well in her future endeavours in dance.

Second Hand School Uniform:

We are having a second hand school uniform sale next half term. So if you have any good quality school uniform that you don’t need any more please drop it off at school.

Log Planters:

Many thanks to Mr Delaney for donating the log planters to school. They make the entrance look far more welcoming. If any parents are interested in purchasing one of these for their homes please speak to Mr Delaney for prices.

TASC & Holiday Club:

At TASC we are looking forward to a fun week of Halloween-themed activities during Holiday Club this half-term, including spooky crafts, a spooky party and a visit from the ever popular Animal Magic mini-zoo. As always, we are open 8am – 6pm on Tuesday,

Wednesday and Thursday during the holiday, with half-day and 2-hour sessions available. Please talk to Claire Bell, our Club Coordinator, or call the TASC mobile 07792 075486, if you are interested in coming along. There is lots going on at After School Club between now and Christmas – speak to Claire to find out more!

Friends of School Update:

Thank you to those who attended our last meeting. We had a very productive discussion about forthcoming events, with some exciting new ideas emerging. So far, we can confirm the following events for this term:

Wednesday 7th November: Film night. U and PG rated options will be available.

Thursday 29th November: Christmas disco with party games and prizes.

Sunday 9th December: Breakfast with Santa (at St John’s Institute following the Christingle Service), to include hot breakfast sandwiches, cakes, refreshments, tombola, games, Christmas raffle draw and the all-important Santa’s grotto.

Further details of all events will follow nearer the time. As Christmas approaches, we will be sending out raffle tickets in the children’s book bags for you to buy or sell to family members and friends. Each class will be asked for donations towards themed hampers that will be given away as raffle prizes, along with any kind donations of prizes from local businesses.

After the half term holiday we will be providing refreshments for the School Coffee Morning where you can come and see the children in their classroom environment and find out more about Friends of School, the after school club (TASC) and school life in general.

In addition to these events, we have lots more fundraising ideas for the New Year, including an orienteering race, table top sale, Lego competition and children’s art exhibition.

If you have a particular interest in any of the events or if you would like to help out in any way, please let us know. Your help is very much appreciated and is essential to make events fun and successful in raising funds for important school resources and activities that benefit all our children. We have already raised £200 from sales of cakes and refreshments at the recent cluster schools sports events, so that’s a good start for us to build on this year.

Please contact Raquel on 07756 671717 or leave your details at the school office.

Friends of School do a fantastic job of arranging events. The funds they raise support school enormously, for example, pantomime at Christmas which the children love, Easter egg prizes and lots of other resources school can’t afford. This year they are contributing to more IT resources i.e. netbook and tablets for the children.

Many thanks for your support and have a lovely holiday (hopefully without the forecasted snow!).
