Miss Smith’s group’s phonics:

Monday-

In Phase 4, no new graphemes are introduced. The main aim of this phase is to consolidate the children’s knowledge and to help them learn to read and spell words which have adjacent consonants, such as trap, string and milk.

There are 37 blends to learn.

1.Revise all phase 3 sounds. Phase 3 sound mat.

2.Quickwrite words –

Pair, high, beard, manure.

3.Introduce phase 4 sounds.

Use phase 4 sound mat. (Twinkl)

1.tw, 2.pl, 3.br, 4.sp, 5. Sn.

Practise pronouncing them. Can you think of any words with these sounds in?

Tuesday-

1. Revise writing phase 3 sounds. Adult say a sound. Child remembers what it looks like and writes it down. Choose between 8-12 to practise.

2. Phase 2, then 3 tricky word mat. Practise these words.

3. Introduce phase 4 sounds.

Use phase 4 sound mat/flash cards.

In the box activity-

Write the following words on paper/card-

Twig, brush, snake, spade, plane.

Hide them in a box. Then ask your child to take them out of the box one at a time and read them. On separate pieces of card/paper write the blends- 1.tw, 2.pl, 3.br, 4.sp, 5. Sn.

Or print out phase four blend flash cards from www.Twinkl.co.uk

Ask your child to match the word to the blend. Emphasise the sound it makes.

Wednesday-

1. Phase 3 sounds flash card revision.

2. Phase 2 Tricky Word write.

3. Use phase 4 sound mat/flash cards.

1.St, 2. Cl, 3. Fr, 4. nd, 5. Lt.

Practise pronouncing them. Can you think of any words with these sounds in?

Thursday-

1. Tricky word bingo- phase 2/3. Make or print off from Twinkl.

2. Revise phase 4 sounds- phase 4 sound mat.

3. In the box activity- belt, clown, frog, hand, starfish. (Play as on Tuesday).

Friday- Print out, or make a tricky word bingo Phase 2/3 words, to play.
