We follow the National Curriculum for England which can be viewed or downloaded by clicking here.
Our Creative Curriculum
School has adopted a creative curriculum and we firmly believe that children learn best when their learning is ‘joined up’ and links are made across the curriculum. This means that subjects are taught, as far as possible, using a thematic approach.
We have just introduced the Cornerstones Creative curriculum and have produced long term plans that we believe will excite and motivate our children. The current plans for both the Reception, Infants, Lower Juniors and Upper Juniors can be viewed here. Each topic covers all the foundation subjects apart from RE and MFL. The children will also use the skills learnt in English and Maths within each topic.
Each new topic is introduced in a way that will engage the children before beginning to develop the skills and knowledge they will need. After this, the children will have an opportunity to innovate, leading their own learning before, finally, expressing to others what they have learnt through their topic.
There is also a daily English and Maths lesson taught. We follow the Letter and Sounds scheme to teach phonics in EYFS and Key Stage 1.
Whilst RE is not part of the National Curriculum, there is a statutory requirement, under the 1988 Education Reform Act, that it should form part of the school’s curriculum. School uses the Derbyshire Agreed Syllabus and the Derby Diocesan Understanding Christianity Document. Parents have a right to withdraw their child from these lessons if they wish. Please feel free to discuss this with the Headteacher.
